Description:
This six-week online course helps teachers tap the educational potential of Google tools. Participants go beyond the basic Google search with advanced searching and hands-on practice with Google Earth, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Picasa and more. Along the way, they explore strategies for using Google tools to challenge and engage students and improve parent-student-teacher communication.

Pre-requisites:

  • Basic computer and internet skills
  • Google account (register for free before the course)

Through this course, participants

  • Recognize the value of integrating multimedia into classroom projects
  • Understand strategies for using Google tools in ways that engage students in higher level thinking activities
  • Effectively use Google’s search technology
  • Demonstrate basic skills using Google Sites, Google Earth, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Picasa, Google Groups and Blogger

Credit:

  • 1 Semester hour SUU credit
  • 1 hour USOE credit

Points:

Assignment:
In addition to completing weekly assignments, participants must complete one of the following final projects:

  • Curriculum Timeline Project: Combine different elements of Google Earth, Blogger, and Picasa to make a tour of five important events in a particular curriculum area.
  • Classroom Website: Combine different elements of Google Sites, Blogger, Google Calendar, and Google Docs to create a classroom website.
