Description:
Designed for the Mac, this class focuses on developing and implementing a learning project using the digital camera as an educational tool. We first provide a foundation in the necessary theory on project-based learning, assist participants with skills needed to use the cameras, and then offer general ideas for application and specific examples of effective educational uses of this technology tool. Use iPhoto for basic image editing, and learn to prepare images for printing or for use in a multimedia project. Learn how to use digital images to change any PowerPoint, document, or website from ordinary to extraordinary!

Basic computer and Internet skills.

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Understand uses of the digital camera in the classroom (student project samples).
- Understand the basics of how digital cameras work.
- Understand basic concepts for taking good photographs.
- Be able to transfer the images from the camera to their computer.
- Understand what comprises a digital image and the different formats (e.g. gif, jpeg).
- Be able to edit, enhance and optimize images for print or multimedia project using iPhoto.
- Create a multimedia show using iPhoto and iMovie

Assignment:
Complete a project or lesson that uses digital cameras and images in some manner (iMovie, PowerPoint presentation, newsletter, etc.) Write a one page reflection paper explaining the educational or curriculum context for your project and how you plan to use your digital camera skills in the classroom. The project and paper should be submitted via e-mail within 30 days of the completion of class.
