Description:
This is a two-day course designed for educators who have taken "GIS in the Classroom" and "The GPS Classroom" from UEN. Learn how to bring the two technologies, GIS and GPS, together to create a project to use in your classroom. Participants enhance their GIS skills and learn to incorporate data gathering, GPS, and other field work techniques.
Pre-requisites:
MUST have taken "GIS in the Classroom" and "The GPS Classroom" from UEN.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course participants will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the components in a GIS Project.
- Identify and develop a project-based experience for their students using GIS/GPS.
- Create a classroom project that can be integrated into their core curriculum and classroom practices.
- Share their project with other participants.
- Learn advanced GIS and GPS skills.
- Be able to use GIS/GPS in a project that challenges students to reach higher levels of thinking based on Bloom’s taxonomy.
Things to bring:
Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather conditions, since we will be outdoors for a good portion of the class.
Optional: participants are encouraged to bring their own GPS and Digital Camera (Be sure to also bring the cables and software that came with the GPS and camera). We can provide a few GPS units for practice (participants may have to share).

Assignment:
Within a month of class, try your classroom project with your students. In a reflective paper describe what activity you did and answer the following:
- What curriculum standard and/or objectives did the project support?
- What worked?
- What didn’t work?
- What did my students and I learn from the activity?
- What types of assessment did I use?
- What are my plans for using Spatial/Geographic Inquiry and GIS tools in the future?
