Description:
This course is designed for those who are striving to bring more technology, Internet and visual material into their classroom, but still feel a uncertain how to go about it. Learn to use software, Internet resources, pictures, sounds, and videos to effectively enhance student learning and help students develop important critical thinking skills. We demonstrate some of the best methods for creating a curriculum rich in visual resources and enhanced with a variety
of technologies including free Internet tools such as Google Earth. We
cover the basics of working with graphic organizers both for presentation
and learning information using Inspiration and Kidspiration software and
focus on the benefits to students of visuals and multimedia in the
classroom.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:
- Identify and develop a project-based experience for students using the Inspiration software or other online or multimedia tools such as Google Earth.
- Understand a variety of ways to integrate visual learning into their core curriculum and classroom practices.
- Be able to use the Inspiration software or visual learning concepts in a project that challenges students to reach higher level thinking skills based on Bloom’s taxonomy.

Assignment:
Design and implement a project with your students. Use Inspiration or other visual learning tool mastered in class. The project should incorporate visual learning strategies that positively impact student achievement in a specific core curriculum area.
Submit a student project example, lesson plan, and a one page reflective paper. The reflection should discuss the way you implemented visual learning in your classroom and the impact it had. It must include the state core curriculum standard which the lesson supports and a brief discussion of areas of success and/or areas of improvement from your implementation of the visual media project in class. Please use a word processor and conventional formatting for your paper.
