Description:
Bring student stories to life using a digital medium! Add a highly motivational digital story project to ordinary curriculum, and watch even the most tuned out students turn on to learning. Based upon the principles taught in Bernajean Porter’s Digitales: The Art of Telling Digital Stories, learn to craft and share your own digital story. Use basic story creation tools in this Mac-based class including iPhoto, iMovie, and iTunes. Through the process of creating your own personally empowering story, experience the transformation that can take place in any student.

Upon completion of this course, participants will:
- Identify and develop an appropriate digital story using Bernajean Porter’s Seven Step Process in Digital Storytelling and digital media.
- Understand the importance of incorporating multimedia within their classroom writing projects.
- Demonstrate basic skills in the iLife suite products including: iPhoto, iMovie, and iTunes.
Things to bring:
Participants are encouraged to bring story ideas and digital resources to build their stories.

Assignment:
Design a digital story using the skills developed in class. Develop a plan for incorporating in your curriculum either the story you created or a similar project where students create their own stories.
Submit the finished digital story (or sample student product). Include a one page reflective paper discussing how you implemented the digital storytelling process in your classroom and the impact it had. The reflective paper must include a summary of the project idea, the relevant state core curriculum standard and a brief discussion of the project’s implementation – what aspects succeeded, and what areas might be improved. Please use a word processor and conventional formatting for your paper.
