Description:
Participants identify a curriculum area, then create a PowerPoint presentation to support their curriculum using the wizard and templates, as well as blank slides. Learn how to insert text, graphics, audio, and video objects. Develop transitions and animations. Explore examples and strategies for effectively using multimedia in your classroom including planning and evaluating multimedia projects. Use the Internet to find and include multimedia resources and share your discoveries during class.

Pre-requisites:
To gain the most from this course, you should:

  • Have some experience with the use of the Internet
  • Understand the basic functions of the computer: save, copy, and paste.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Use the basic features of PowerPoint.
  • Create a PowerPoint show to use in the classroom.
  • Integrate a PowerPoint project as part of a curriculum-based lesson plan.
  • Plan a lesson that includes multimedia projects for students.
  • Evaluate a student multimedia project using rubrics.

Avoiding Seven Deadly Multimedia Design And Presentation Sins

Credit:
1 hour USOE credit
1 semester hour SUU credit

Points:
14 licensure points

Assignment:
Completed work must demonstrate an understanding of the skills and multimedia integration strategies learned in the class. This assignment has two parts:

Identify a curricular area where students will create PowerPoint presentations. Plan the directions, teaching strategies and assessment to implement the project. Use the UEN online Lesson Plan and/or Rubric creation tools to outline the plan.

OR
Build a PowerPoint presentation for use in your classroom or curriculum that includes appropriate graphics, audio, video and citations.

AND
Using either the project you created, or the lesson plan for which students create PowerPoint shows, run a “pilot test” with a student group. After trying out the technology, write a one page reflection of what worked, what didn’t work, and what you plan to do next. (Please make it typed, double-spaced for easier evaluation.) OR use PowerPoint to create your reflection using multimedia.
