Description:
With a focus on creating a classroom web site, this course begins by defining some concepts of Internet function - from how a browser works, to transferring files from your desktop to a server for the world to access. Following this we introduce HTML (the formatting language for web pages). After establishing a common ground with terminology and concepts, participants use basic Dreamweaver features to build a simple classroom web site adding text, graphics, links and multiple pages. The course includes solid design direction, technical how-to's, and recommendations for using a web site effectively as an educator.
Pre-requisites:
To gain the most from this course, you should:
- Be comfortable working in a Windows or Macintosh environment.
- Have experience using the Internet.
- Have a basic understanding of HTML. (Helpful but not required)

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Use the fundamental features of Dreamweaver to set up and build a simple online project for a curriculum area, class or school.

- Participants may bring their own laptop. A free trail version of Dreamweaver may be downloaded and installed prior to class at: http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/

Credit:
Upon completion of all three courses in the Web Academy series and completion of their homework project, participants can apply to receive 3 hours USOE credit OR 3 semester hours SUU credit.
The three courses are:
- Dreamweaver Level 1
- Web Graphics with Fireworks
- Dreamweaver Level 2
Points:
14 licensure points
Assignment:
A pre and post reflection writing assignment will be required of all participants who want credit. The post-reflection must be turned in within 30 days of completion of the last of the three courses.
Plan and build a website with five or more pages that link and contain elements that demonstrate an understanding of the skills taught in the course. The topic and content of the web site should reflect the educational and communication goals of the school or your classroom.
The Web sites should contain the following:
School Web site:
- Current phone numbers and email addresses of all faculty and staff.
- Current school calendar.
- Links to Grading system, and District site.
- Links to internet resources for Parents and teachers, Pioneer Library etc.
- Meets all District guidelines.
Teachers Web site:
- Current contact information.
- Up to date calendars and schedules.
- Teaching resources: handouts, study aids, etc.
- Internet resources for students and parents.
- Meets all district guidelines.
