Description:
AFTER Digital Camera in the Classroom: Come back with more digital pictures and your camera and learn how to do advanced photo editing with Adobe Photoshop Elements. Learn how to take better pictures and edit your pictures on a pixel level. Use layers and filters to create amazing photographs and professional quality print materials such as brochures, flyers, and billboard type advertisements. Most importantly, learn how to apply your advanced photo editing skills to projects that enhance communication with students and parents and enliven your curriculum.

Description: This is a colorful, magazine-size paperback book (112 pages). It features gear you need, new ways to photograph nature, family and vacations, 153 tips from the experts, a free poster and more. Advanced purchase is not necessary, just bring your $10.00 to class.

Must complete “Digital Camera in the Classroom” course.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  • Understand techniques for taking high quality photographs.
  • Be able to edit, enhance, and optimize images for print or web using Photoshop Elements 3 software.
  • Understand a variety of ways edited or enhanced photos can be integrated into core curriculum projects and improve communication with parents and community.
  • Identify and develop an authentic learning experience in which students use digital images for improved communication.

Things to bring:
Participants should bring original digital photos (stored on camera’s memory card, CD, or jump drive) to edit during class. Participants are encouraged to bring their own digital camera. (Be sure to bring all appropriate and necessary cables and software that came with the camera.)

Assignment:
Submit a student produced or teacher produced example of a class project using the Photoshop Elements 3 software. With this example, include a one page, reflective paper. In this reflection:

  • Explain the lesson or project plan and how it uses Photoshop Elements.
  • Evaluate the lesson or project and describe why it is an effective learning activity, or how it improves communication.
  • Include state core standard(s) the lesson plan is connected to, as well as describing the critical thinking skills students use to complete the project. OR explain how this project meets NCLB requirements for enhanced communication with parents and the community.
