Description:
The Integrating Technology and Curriculum 2 (ITC 2) workshop is a partnership among districts, USOE and UEN. This professional development opportunity is designed to help classroom teachers understand how to effectively integrate technology into their curriculum and classroom.
The ITC 2 workshop extends material from the first workshop to help teachers transition from “consuming” media resources to a point where they and their students become “creators” of multimedia content. In this process, participants and ultimately their students begin to develop several of the twenty-first century skills so important in today’s classroom.
Day One: Participants learn and use at an advanced level the multimedia tool selected by the host district (Advanced PowerPoint, iMovie or MovieMaker2). The workshop focuses on managing student media creation projects with strategies such as storyboarding and rubrics. Specific software features and skills are covered, as well as further exploration of audio and video resources, and tools to edit and incorporate these resources in participants’ products.
Day Two: The second day focuses on actually creating the multimedia product, participating in peer review and feedback and sharing the finished product in class.
Note: UEN and USOE have limited funding to provide lunches and, when required, substitute reimbursement for the ITC workshops. These items are coordinated through each hosting district. Credit is available and processed through UEN.
Pre-requisites:
Participants must have completed the ITC 1 workshop. This workshop is a follow up to ITC 1 and participants are expected to be fluent with the skills, resources and concepts from the ITC 1 workshop prior to taking ITC 2.
Skill Level:
Some Computer Experience
Type of course:
In Person
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this workshop participants become familiar with the pedagogy, skills, and resources associated with the effective incorporation of educational technologies into class curricula and teaching strategies. Specifically they:
- Plan and develop a learning activity/project which requires students to create multimedia products.
- Demonstrate how the activity supports specific curriculum standards and includes appropriate assessment of the student products.
- Effectively incorporate storyboards and rubrics as part of the activity.
- Develop skills for creating multimedia with the software available (Advanced PowerPoint, iMovie, or Windows Movie Maker 2).
- Edit audio files using Audacity.
- Download, edit, and use digital video from the internet.
Things to bring:
Your own laptop computer (optional)
Ideas and materials for student multimedia project
Online Materials:
ITC Web Page
Course resources and information page
Credit:
1 hour USOE credit
1 semester hour SUU credit
Points:
14 relicensure points
Assignment:
In order to successfully complete the ITC workshop, participants must create a curriculum-based project for which students create multimedia products.
In about one page, describe how you would include this project in your curriculum, and what curriculum objective it would help students to learn. Please use a word processor with appropriate formatting and complete sentences in your paper.
Along with the activity/project description above, create and submit a sample product using the skills learned in class for MovieMaker, PowerPoint or iMovie. This sample product represents what you expect your students to produce upon completion of the project and can be used as a model when you introduce the assignment to students.
To submit your assignment you may attach both the word processor file and the multimedia file to an email. However, if the multimedia file is too large, you may wish to burn a CD with both files and use traditional postal mail to send it in.
